Extract an Image from Base64: When the Result Should Be a File
A long encoded value may represent an image rather than readable sentences. Utilgo Base64 Decoder converts it to bytes and presents the detected file type. First check that the source contains Base64, rather than an ordinary image URL.
Last updated:Separate raw data from a data URL
Input may be bare Base64 or begin with data:image/png;base64,. The comma separates metadata from the encoded bytes. You can paste the complete data URL. Pasting a normal website address does not fetch its images: an image URL and encoded image data are different inputs.
Paste the value or select its text file
Use Paste Base64 and decode, or select a .txt or .b64 file containing the code. The file input here expects encoded text, not the original photograph. Input text is limited to 12 MiB and decoded data to 8 MiB. Splitting a large code into pieces does not produce independent image files.
Read the result according to its type
PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF and BMP can receive image previews when supported by your browser. Readable text is shown as text; PDF can be recognized as a file. Unknown binary data may download as .bin. Detection checks signature bytes rather than trusting the data URL label. Recognition does not establish that a file is safe.
Repair the source, not random characters
Check for a missing beginning or ending. From JSON, copy only the field value without quotes or surrounding object text. Whitespace is removed and URL-safe - and _ are accepted. If decoding fails, retrieve the complete original value instead of guessing padding. Successful decoding alone does not prove the file is complete.
Encoding does not provide secrecy
Base64 is not encryption; anyone with the value can decode it. This tool processes the input in your browser without uploading it for decoding. Avoid exposing confidential values in screenshots or support messages. Inspect the downloaded image and dimensions, and do not run unfamiliar files.
