Practical guide

JSON Formatter

Prepared by: Gsetsoft · Updated:

API responses often arrive as compressed single-line strings that are hard to scan. This tool turns dense JSON into indented, readable output entirely in your browser. Spot a missing field or mistyped value within seconds. Do not paste secret keys; replace sensitive values with sample data first.

Step by step

  1. Copy the minified JSON from your API response.
  2. Paste it into the input box.
  3. Click Format and choose two-space or four-space indentation.
  4. Review brackets in the output, collapsing objects to inspect structure.
  5. Copy the cleaned text into your editor.

Example scenario

An ecommerce response like {"product":"headphones","price":45,"in_stock":true} on one line is unreadable. After formatting, each key moves to its own line and a typo stands out. Everything happens locally, so use sample records instead of real customer data.

Check your result

Confirm the output is indented top to bottom. If an error is reported, note the line number and fix the comma. Open the result in another viewer to confirm it looks identical.
