Repair PDF: Recover Damaged and Partial Files

Prepared by: Gsetsoft · Updated:

When a PDF refuses to open or shows missing pages, rewriting the file structure to recover readable content is usually the fastest fix. Utilgo Repair PDF rebuilds what can still be read from interrupted downloads or damaged exports. Your file is uploaded to the server, and the download link expires 60 minutes after processing, so download promptly. The limit is 20 MB per file. Only readable data is rebuilt, so severely damaged files may not be recoverable. Work on a copy and compare page counts after repair.

Step by step

  1. Make a copy of the damaged file and use only that copy for the repair attempt.
  2. Open the Repair PDF page and upload the file, making sure it is under 20 MB.
  3. Keep the page open until processing finishes, then download immediately because the link expires after 60 minutes.
  4. Open the downloaded file and check the page count, text selection and images.
  5. If key information is still missing, ask the sender for a clean copy; if complete, save it under a new name.

Example scenario

A freelancer downloads an e-invoice, but the connection drops and only the first two pages open. She saves a copy of the file and uploads the copy to Repair PDF. After processing, she downloads the rebuilt file and checks the page count and totals. If amounts are complete, she forwards the file to accounting; if pages are missing, she asks the seller to resend a clean version.

Check your result

Open the repaired file and compare its page count with the damaged original. Confirm that text can be selected and tables appear in the right places. Review critical fields such as invoice number and amount. Rewriting can invalidate a digital signature, so contact the signer if validity matters.
